Ohio Kids First: Gov. DeWine Lays Foundation to Address Child Care Crisis, But An Immense Amount of Work Lies Ahead

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, April 11, 2024

COLUMBUS, OH – In response to Governor Mike DeWine’s State of the State address, Ohio Kids First Executive Director Rachel Selby issued the following statement.

“The reality is that the State of Ohio has been failing on child care, but we took an important step forward with the commitment to Ohio kids that Governor DeWine put front and center in his State of the State address. He has clearly heard the call of working families and businesses about the desperate need for affordable, accessible child care. An immense amount of work lies ahead, but we appreciate the steps Governor DeWine is taking and expect that his commitment sets the course for a budget process in 2025 that finally addresses the child care crisis head on and comprehensively.”

Prior to his speech on Tuesday, Ohio Kids First joined the chorus of business leaders and families highlighting the need to address the child care crisis, and called on Governor DeWine to lay the foundation for increased investment. Ohio Kids First will work in the months ahead to ensure that the needs of families, businesses, and communities are heard by policymakers and candidates.
