Office you are running for:Governor.Do you consider quality child care a workforce issue?Yes.Do you support more state government action to expand access to affordable, safe child care and preschool?Support. As Congress and the General Assembly consider reforms to Medicaid, do you support protecting Medicaid coverage for Ohio’s pregnant women and youngest children?Support.I understand that the recent Medicaid cuts in Washington will make healthcare in some of our most underserved communities, including in rural areas and inner-city neighborhoods, more difficult to access. I’ll work to protect Medicaid funding, use state resources to create a “navigator” program to keep Ohioans enrolled in Medicaid in the face of federal roadblocks, and fight back against attacks on Medicaid from Columbus and Washington, DC. As governor, I will work with the Ohio Department of Health and its maternal and infant offices and bureaus to ensure that prenatal healthcare is affordable and accessible in Ohio, regardless of background. As governor, I will likewise work to ensure infant care in Ohio is affordable and accessible, using a data-driven approach to strengthen infant health outcomes. What pro-work, pro-family solutions do you support? As I travel across our state, I hear that the costs of healthcare, child care, and housing are rising faster than most families can keep up with. I’m running for governor to lower costs, take on the cost of corruption, and invest in our public schools. That’s why I will institute a Working Families Tax Cut to help Ohio families with children and provide immediate property tax relief. As governor, I will launch Ohio Rx – an online platform that will leverage Ohio's purchasing power to drive down prescription drug prices for all Ohioans – and forgive medical debt. Our energy bills are also too high, and as governor, I will fight to lower your bills and save you money through an all-of-the-above energy strategy that enhances production, incorporates the lowest-cost and cleanest sources of energy readily available, and expands access to cost-saving programs like Ohio's Home Energy Assistance Program and the Home Weatherization Assistance Program.Could you share some of your policy priorities that support Ohio’s youngest children?I completed my medical internship in pediatrics and my residency in preventative medicine, and spent my career caring for children, communities and running Ohio’s Department of Health – so caring for the health of our youngest is deeply personal to me. Growing up in Youngstown, I faced neglect, hardship and abuse. No kid deserves to go through that, especially Ohio’s youngest kids. As governor, I will put Ohio’s kids first. Having access to healthcare is critical for the wellbeing of our kids. That’s why I’ll invest in Ohio’s healthcare system, ensuring that we have the funding to withstand recent Medicaid cuts, and ensure our infant and maternity wards around the state receive the funding they need. I will also fight to improve access to affordable child care across our state, including by working with business leaders to address this critical workforce issue. We need a governor and a legislature that understands child care is not just a kitchen table issue for Ohio families, but also an economic development issue for the entire state.I will fully and constitutionally fund our public schools, allowing us to prioritize students, educators, and schools over giving hand outs and tax cuts to the wealthy, helping to reduce the pressure on local property taxes. I’ll invest in programs that help Ohioans deal with the crisis of rising costs, including free school lunch, a Working Families Tax Cut, and implementing property tax reform.
